ALERT – The Yemen Pledging Conference must address dire humanitarian needs

20 national and international humanitarian organisations in Yemen are calling for donors to commit at the pledging conference.

Since the escalation of conflict in Yemen almost four years ago, the humanitarian needs have increased drastically, with an estimated 24 million people or 80% of the population in need of some form of humanitarian assistance in 2019.

Today 26th of February, the UN Secretary-General convenes a high-level pledging conference in Geneva, co-hosted by the governments of Switzerland and Sweden. HI joins its voice to other national and international humanitarian organisations to call for adequate levels of funding to implement the UN Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan for this year. The NGOs also urge the donors and the international community to support measures that protect Yemeni civilians, demand accountability for violations and disregard for the laws of war, along with peace negotiations and pressure their allies to find a peaceful political solution to the conflict in Yemen.
