The European Disability Forum (EDF) and the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC) have joined hands to produce a common analysis and set of recommendations on the EU Multi-Annual Financial Framework.

The European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Member States have been engaged in intense negotiations to define the EU budget for the next seven years following 2021. This represents a key moment for the EU and its Member States to demonstrate their commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the New Urban Agenda.

The European Union has a responsibility to ensure that all of its programmes and policies are implemented in compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that the EU and all EU Member States have ratified.

The joint recommendations from IDDC, of which HI is a founding member, and EDF highlight the need to strengthen the future financial instruments to support the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in Europe and in its international cooperation.
